It’s important for you to know that we are NOT a franchise. We do not charge our customers any franchise costs or demand any commissions or licence agreement fee’s. You are free to establish your own franchise or business.

If you do decide to start your own business making & selling Kurtos, then after a while the LAST THING you want to EAT is … a Kurtos…..

During one of our baking sessions, I mentioned to Matjaz that I felt I could no longer eat another sweet Kurtos kalacs again… The thought of it, made me feel ill. But I went onto say “Wouldn’t it be cool, to make a savoury version? Matjaz took that as a challenge. It didn’t take him long to invent a totally new product, a salty, cheesy version, but produced using the SAME dough, so no wastage.

From the savoury version, we went onto create the “Chimney dog” a long a thin savoury roll, filled with a hot dog which has proved a popular product for some of our customers.

But I think that THE most popular product we created must be the “Chimney cone”. It was during a trip to Istanbul that we came up with the idea. Back then, Chimney cake was more of a winter product, popular at Christmas markets served warm with hot wine.

During a business trip to Turkey, we were worried that the traditionally shaped product might not work there, mainly due to the warmer climate. So, I said,

“when it’s hot, people eat Ice cream, let’s make a cooking roll in a cone shape that our customers can fill with ice cream”.

But in all honestly, the popularity of the product would not have grown as quick as it did, if it wasn’t for our customer GOOD FOOD in Prague. Good Food were the first company to take the cone shape idea on board & create different Chimney cone
flavours. Images of their product went VIRAL around the world & bloggers & even newspapers wrote about it, hailing it as the ‘latest food trend’.

Unfortunately, a lot of the viral posts on Instagram & Facebook all referred to the product as a “Doughnut cone” even though the recipe is not the same as a doughnut & Chimney cake is baked and not fried! ITS JUST NOT A DOUGHNUT! But that’s social media for you!

On the plus side, by creating this new product & due to its popularity, it has enabled many of our customers to bake all year round. Enticing customers in the cold months with a warm, fresh traditional Kurtos & during the hotter months, filled with ice cream & topped with all kinds of delicious sauces & tempting toppings. And if you want to offer a product which can be eaten as a snack or meal, the savoury cone is our latest creation. You can fill the savoury cone with anything from bacon & eggs, to macaroni cheese to Chicken fajita, its so easy to carry around & eat on the go.
